My submission for PineJam 2026 (https://pinestore.cc/jam/pinejam2026)

See it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO5hZH-xOcI

Music by ‪Emanulator‬.

Technical information: This demo uses the PinePix extension for the Pine3D library. The portals are rendered using two lower priority parallel rendering threads which render to the main threads texture memory. The soundtrack is generated on the fly using midi notation and a software synthesizer as well as audio samples.

The models and the effects look absolutely fabulous. A great demo of CC's capabilities.

I love Portal, so seeing Forever Testing take a Demoscene concept and combine it with Portal is pretty awesome. I especially love that you have figured out a way to actually render through the portals as well. I understand that is fairly hard to get working nicely, and performantly. It would have been neat to have more interactions (i.e. the turrets shooting or the companion cube falling into the portal), but the time limit is a cruel thing.

I really like how this is executed and the little details like a custom valve like starting screen, its very well done, my dummy first ran this on a big monitor and had some audio issues but its actually better to run on a smaller screen it seems, only thing thats a bit sad is the portal resolution- but its still portals!, id be curious how that was implemented exactly since ive never looked much into it

I think we all have to admit that Portal is a very great game, and you encapsulated it perfectly in this demo. I liked how you managed to figure out the rendering for the portals, and it's impressive how you got the music to be played live as a MIDI file.
