this is a pinejam 2026 entry

Context

You are trying to keep your civilisation from collapsing under ennemy fire by creating new cities and train lines.

Instructions

It is recommended to play with a monitor of atleast 3x3, we recommend 4x4.
The vscode extension for craftos-pc doesn't register mouse clicks outside of the default terminal size so it wont work.

How to play

  • You need to keep atleast one city alive
  • You can select a city by clicking on it
  • You can build a new city by clicking anywhere on the map that isn't water after selecting another city
  • You can create a train line between two cities by selecting one then the other
  • Red squares appear to warn you of incomming ennemy bombardments
  • Cities hit by ennemy bombs are destroyed
  • Creating cities and train lines takes ressources
  • The more train lines the faster ressources generate and the more cities the higher the ressource max

Dev commentary

This project was inspired by tabletop startegy games.
We also mainly wanted to use ComBox (a library that we made together) to actually make something to prove to ourselves that it's not completly useless.
@to_noaccentavailable also really wanted to do procedural generation.
Because we took a long time to actually start the project we cut corners pretty hard, mainly in code quality, it's pretty spaghetti-like but it works so it's ok.

Great interpretation of the theme! It was quite confusing for me, and I couldn't really follow what was going on on the board. I think I'm just too dumb for this one.

As a single-player time-waster tabletop game, Bombastic Island is enjoyable. However, as far as 'gamification' goes, I think this is missing a few elements. It would be nice to have a score of some sort, as well as a bit better explanation of the mechanics. For example, I believed the resource bar was a timer for the attacks until quite late into my second game. I must add that I really love the overall style you've gone for with the game. Great work!

This is quite interesting and takes the idea of a "board" game very literally, ive not seen someone make tables like this out of monitors which actually feel like a map for some reason, pretty nifty and surprised more people havent done it, also the actual rendering here looks pretty damn cool zoomed out color wise, rather impressed with that for what technique its using for drawing

I couldn't really figure this one out... I still quite like the detail you put into the map though.
